The Full Story

Madad wasn’t born out of a big plan or grand vision—it started during the chaos of COVID-19, when the world felt like it was falling apart. Families were struggling, livelihoods were lost overnight, and uncertainty was everywhere. In the middle of it all, a few of us came together in a simple WhatsApp group, asking, How can we help?

At first, it was small. Someone needed food, and we found a way to get it to them. Another family needed money for medical bills, and we pooled together what we could. It was messy, unstructured, but it was real. And then, an idea sparked: what if, instead of just offering one-time help, we gave families something that could sustain them for the long run? That’s when the idea of donating cows came to life.

On average, a healthy dairy cow can produce 6-10 liters of milk per day. With milk prices in India ranging from ₹40-₹60 ($0.50-$0.75) per liter, a family can earn anywhere between ₹7,000-₹18,000 ($85-$215) per month just by selling milk. For many rural families, that’s more than enough to cover essential expenses like food, education, and healthcare.

But the benefits don’t stop at milk. Cow dung, often overlooked, is another valuable resource. It can be used as an organic fertilizer to improve crop yields, sold as biofuel, or even processed into biogas for clean cooking energy. Some families make an additional ₹2,000-₹5,000 ($25-$60) per month just from dung-based products.

That means a single cow can generate an annual income of ₹1,00,000-₹2,75,000 ($1,200-$3,300)—a life-changing amount for a struggling family. Unlike one-time cash assistance, this isn’t just short-term relief; it’s a sustainable livelihood.

We saw firsthand how a single cow could provide milk for nourishment, dung for fuel, and even financial stability through dairy sales. Word spread, more people joined in, and before we knew it, what started as a small chat group had turned into a full-fledged movement. Today, we've donated 54 cows across India, helping families build sustainable sources of income and regain their independence.

Now, we’re looking beyond just cows—because sustainability isn’t one-size-fits-all. We want to expand into other regions and introduce new income-generating opportunities that suit different communities. Whether it’s agricultural support, vocational training, or small business initiatives, the goal remains the same: to help families stand on their own feet. Reach out to us with your information, any ideas, or any connections to communities.
